Wuhan, China – 2025年10月12日 – Wuhan Optics Valley People's Hospital, the first district-owned public Grade III Class A general hospital in Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China), has successfully completed its 66,000-square-meter underground garage featuring epoxy self-leveling flooring. This milestone upgrades the region's healthcare support facilities and reinforces the hospital's role as a key medical hub in the core of Huashan Ecological New Town.
Jointly developed by the East Lake High-tech Development Zone Management Committee and Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, the hospital boasts a total investment of 2.3 billion yuan (approximately 320 million US dollars). With a total construction area of about 244,000 square meters and 1,000 planned beds, it is poised to meet the growing medical demands of local residents and surrounding communities.
The newly delivered underground garage offers 2,000 parking spaces – including 300 charging spots for electric vehicles – across its 66,000-square-meter area. A key highlight is its 5mm-thick epoxy self-leveling flooring: a functional decorative material known for its smooth, durable, and visually appealing surface. The project was completed in five months, overcoming multiple construction challenges.
Widely used in garages, factories, exhibition halls and medical facilities, epoxy self-leveling flooring is divided into organic and inorganic types. The organic variant, made primarily of epoxy resin coatings, achieves functional performance through multi-layer application (primer, intermediate coat, topcoat). For the hospital garage, this flooring ensures a hygienic, easy-to-clean, and wear-resistant surface that meets the strict standards of medical infrastructure.
The construction team tackled three main challenges: uneven concrete foundations, intensive cross-construction, and severe dampness during Wuhan's plum rain season. Targeted solutions included double grinding of the ground to ensure flatness, 24/7 dehumidifier operation to keep surfaces dry, protective measures for finished areas, and prompt repair of scratches from cross-construction.
Dr. Li Ming, the hospital's chief administrator, stressed the garage's significance: "A well-equipped parking facility is vital to enhancing the overall medical service experience. Our epoxy self-leveling garage not only provides ample, convenient parking but also demonstrates our commitment to building a modern, patient-centered hospital with top-tier infrastructure."
As Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone expands its healthcare network, Wuhan Optics Valley People's Hospital – and its state-of-the-art garage – will play a pivotal role in improving regional medical accessibility and service quality.
